Raccoons in the Trash
April 23, 2009Sparrow Eggs
April 23, 2009These are some eggs that we have found inside our grill. We think they are sparrow eggs but we don’t know for sure if they are sparrow eggs. We puzzled over how the bird got in but then I found in the back of the grill there was a place where smoke was supposed to get out that was about the size of a small bird. Once I came face to face with the mother bird who just happened to be looking out the exit when I was checking on the eggs.
Eastern Box Turtles
April 23, 2009 The eastern box turtle is a common reptile in Virginia. You can easily recognize it by its yellowish stripes. I have heard that a virginian has suggested that it should be Virginias state reptile. It hasn’t been decided yet.
We found the turtle in the picture pretty well hidden. But it didn’t stick around for very long before hiding in its shell.
A Deer in the Woods
April 23, 2009This is a picture of a deer. It is probably with another one but sometimes we see them by themselves. The most recent time we’ve seen a group of deer was when there were five deer in the open. This is the most we have ever seen in a group. We usually see three in a group(one male two females because it was mating season so there wouldn’t be two males because of competition for a mate).I followed the deer into the woods but I couldn’t go too far in because I didn’t have any shoes on. This is a white-tailed deer. They are common in Virginia and is the only kind that I have seen in my neighborhood.
